Protection not Destruction

A fairly recent shooting of a Mother Polar Bear with two young cubs took place in Deline, NT.  The family had travelled over 400km out of their normal range in search of food.  Autopsy revealed the three bears were starving to death.  The RCMP officer stated that there were no Environmental Officers in town allowing for the bears to be darted and relocated.

This is a call to the Canadian Government to make it MANDATORY that all RCMP detachments across the Canadian North be equipted and have access to tranquilizer guns, so that these majestic bears may be darted and relocated rather than murdered.

There is an argument that while in some areas Polar Bear populations are in decline and in others there is little change in numbers is ridiculous.  Opposition to  the US decision regarding the Polar Bear, is strong in the far North.  Northern Outfitters are opposed and will be seeking markets for their services from other countries.  The slaughter will continue.  Providing tranquilzer guns to RCMP detachments across the North will provide protection  and a new chance at survival for these bears.

Canada must step up and the people must be heard.  Prime Minister Harper MUST take positive action  for the Protection of the Polar Bears.  Take a step forward Mr. Harper, not three backwards.
