Protect Whistleblowers Who Expose Corruption
We rely on brave and honest employees to "blow the whistle" on wasteful spending, lax safety practices, dangerous products and other abuses. Whistleblowers also return $1 billion to taxpayers every year through the False Claims Act.
It's wrong that the people who protect American tax dollars -- who protect us -- are far too often reprimanded, fired or harassed, even if they haven't "gone public" with their information and even after their allegations are proven true.
The Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act would go a long way to strengthen protections for those who expose wrongdoing. It would restore and expand the rights of federal workers, fix failed policies and procedures, close loopholes and provide legal, safe channels for disclosures of wrongdoing.
Tell Congress to support the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act and protect the people who expose waste, fraud and abuse -- and save billions of taxpayer dollars.

Whistleblowers protect the public by exposing wasteful spending, lax safety practices, dangerous products and other abuse. They also return $1 billion to taxpayers every year through the False Claims Act. It's wrong that the people who protect America's tax dollars are far too often reprimanded, fired or harassed, even if they haven't "gone public" with their information and even after their allegations are proven to be true. We need to encourage our foot soldiers on the front lines fighting waste in our government to come forward, instead of intimidating them into silence.

The recently re-introduced Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2011 (S.743) is a bipartisan accountability bill that would go a long way to strengthen protections for those who expose wrongdoing. It would restore and expand the rights of federal workers, fix failed policies and procedures, close loopholes and provide whistleblowers limited access to courts. It would also give national security and intelligence community workers an administrative appeals process to proven leaks and provide legal, safe channels for disclosures of wrongdoing. There is a broad agreement that these reforms are necessary. In fact, both the House and Senate unanimously passed versions of the bill last year.
