Save the historic Hebron SDA School!
For over forty years, The Hebron Bilingual Seventh-day Adventist School has provided bilingual education for nursery through eighth grade students of immigrant families. The school primarily teaches lower-income children from Brooklyn's Haitian community. Aside from education, the school also fosters an environment that allows its students to explore and express their creativity through song and dance.
Sadly, the school's historic building is deteriorating and may have to close. Already, the school cannot open and operate for this upcoming 2020 school year due to the current hazardous structural conditions.
The good news is that there is hope for the school. Currently, there is a proposed project that is a collaboration between a community-minded developer and the Hebron French Speaking Seventh Day Adventist church and the Hebron Bilingual Seventh-day Adventist School. The Hebron School project would not only preserve this historic site in North Crown Heights and save a struggling school, it would also build affordable new housing.
As New Yorkers, this is our opportunity to preserve a landmarked building, protect the future of this important community school, and add much needed housing to the neighborhood.
