Sign the Petition to Demand The Senate Pass A Stronger Global Food Security Act
We're living through a growing hunger catastrophe of unprecedented proportions. Every night, 828 million people are going to bed hungry, including 50 million people in 45 countries who are on the brink of starvation. No one should go hungry because of forces out of their control. That's why we're asking Congress to meet the moment and sufficiently fund investment in the Global Food Security Act (GFSA) so that more countries can benefit.
In May — thanks to extraordinary action by Oxfam's community and coalition partners — Congress passed legislation that allocated more than $5 billion to address global hunger. This funding, in addition to other investments, will undoubtedly save lives in the hardest hit communities around the world, but we need to invest further to help people in the fight against hunger and poverty now and in the long-term.
Rather than reacting to food crises, we need to take strong action to prevent them — so it's time to raise our voices.
The GFSA, a bill with bipartisan support, was designed to develop stronger food systems and prevent hunger crises like the one unfolding now in East Africa. Now that it's up for reauthorization, Congress has an opportunity to provide consistent support by reauthorizing it for another 5 years.
Add your name to demand that the Senate use its power to prevent future crises by urgently passing the Global Food Security Act!
