Subject: Protect America's Arctic!
Dear President Obama,
We, the undersigned, want strong protections for the special places in America's Arctic, its wildlife and its people. As our climate continues to change and with the Arctic warming faster than any other part of the globe, we must act now to protect habitats for polar bears, beluga whales, seals, caribou, and make sure they have space to roam.
We must:
- Permanently protect the Polar Bear Seas (the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas) from dangerous drilling.
- Permanently protect the coastal plain, the biological heart of the Arctic Refuge, by making it a designated Wilderness area.
- Permanently protect the special areas of the western Arctic (including Teshekpuk Lake, Utukok Uplands, Colville River and Kasegaluk Lagoon) by expanding and connecting these core areas so that wildlife has space to thrive.
While Big Oil and their friends in Congress continue to push for dirty oil and gas development across America's Arctic, we must acknowledge that some places are too special to drill. The Arctic Refuge, special areas in the Western Arctic and the Polar Bear Seas are the jewels of the far north. If we want future generations to enjoy their pristine wilderness and majestic wildlife, we must protect these places now!
