This out-of-control Texas cop pulled a gun on children. Audit the department!

On June 5, McKinney, TX, police were called to a neighborhood pool party. Several white residents claimed that black teens were trespassing - but many had passes and were community residents, and the complainers had openly mocked their race.

Yet when police arrived, Cpl. Eric Casebolt ran around like he was in a war zone, screaming obscenities at black children. Watch the videoCasebolt jams his knee into one girl's back after she obeys his order to leave, forces two kids onto the ground for politely talking to another officer, and pulls his gun on the children - but stops no white kids.

All this accomplished was to teach kids not to trust the police. Casebolt was suspended, and ultimately resigned from the force. That is great news. Any officer who is capable of thinking, even for a second, that pulling a gun on non-violent children is acceptable is a danger to the community.

This petition had two original goals. Casebolt's departure from the force was one, but we also need the state to investigate the department. Casebolt wasn't a rookie; he had been there years. Does the McKinney PD have a culture that fosters this behavior? What is their hiring process? What racial and de-escalation training do officers receive? Why didn't other officers stop him?

Sign the petition today: Tell the Texas Department of Public Safety to audit the McKinney PD!

Great news! The Texas Rangers will investigate the McKinney pool party incident. That's not quite the same as investigating the department - we need to know if a broken culture enabled Casebolt's behavior - but it's a step forward. Please keep sharing this petition so the Rangers expand their audit - and I will send them your signatures!
