Restore Bison to Their Native Habitat
More than 30 million wild bison once roamed America's grasslands. Today, fewer than 5,000 wild bison remain, and most are confined to Yellowstone National Park.
Thankfully, Montana's governor has expanded the areas where Yellowstone's wild bison are allowed to live—an encouraging step that is thanks to tens of thousands of people like you speaking up.
But, in order for this majestic species to recover fully, we must establish new, wild bison herds on native prairie habitats in the Great Plains. We've set the stage for restoring wild bison to a vast expanse in north-central Montana, but it won't happen without the voices of wildlife champions like you.
More must be done for bison to once again truly roam free.
Take Action! Sign your name to urge Montana Governor Bullock to establish more wild bison herds on the Great Plains where they can roam freely.
Dear Governor Bullock,
Thank you for encouraging and supporting Montana's exploration of bison-restoration opportunities. Your leadership, including vetoing anti-bison legislation, is greatly appreciated.
Now it is time to move forward. It is time to move beyond whether to restore bison, and time to focus on where and how to do it.
Montana is a national leader in wildlife restoration and management. Montana can restore and manage bison every bit as successfully as it has its elk, deer and other native wildlife. I know bison, like all wildlife, presents certain challenges. But they are challenges I know Montana can meet with your leadership.
