No Horse Slaughter in the United States!

Here in the United States, horses aren't exactly considered a delicacy in the food world. In fact, in a recent poll, about 80% of Americans are opposed to horse slaughter of any kind. So why are certain proponents of horse slaughtering trying to open slaughterhouses right here in America?
