The National Energy Board approved several companies' applications to begin searching for oil in Baffin Bay. Seismic testing is being undergone, which involves the fire of loud cannons. As this increases the background noise in the ocean by 100 times, it poses a significant threat to narwhals.
According to Greenpeace, 80-90% of the narwhal population are located in the Baffin Bay area. Therefore, by allowing seismic testing in the area, the National Energy Board of Canada is allowing narwhals to be put at risk.
Tell the National Energy Board to help protect threatened narwhal whales from seismic testing!
