Being the first in the family to attend college is bigger than a diploma. The pride that comes with owning your first home is bigger than a new set of keys. A smile on the face of a small business owner as she hires members of her community is bigger than a paycheck.
Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) have sparked resilience and hope for thousands in Oregon communities by teaching financial health, promoting faster savings and inspiring bigger dreams.
One example is Natalie. As a young single mother, she joined Oregon's IDA Initiative which helped her save money for the future so she could afford an education.
"It gives Oregonians with low incomes the chance to think about something bigger than their next meal or a new pair of shoes," she says.
More prospective students, small business entrepreneurs and homeowners want to participate in the Oregon IDA Initiative but they face long waiting lists.
The 2015 Oregon Legislature has the opportunity to RENEW AND EXPAND the IDA initiative.
Our leaders need to hear directly from the people and organizations that they were elected to represent in Salem.
