Dear Mr President, dear members of Romanian government,
we found out that you want to kill all of stray dogs because of tragic death of young boy Ionuta. We deeple regret of his death, but we have to say you that the couse of problems with overpopulation in your country are you and your long-standing inactivity. You are responsible for stray dog attacks to people. The stray dogs are in the street because of people. If you do not abandon of twenty years lasting practise and method of mass murdering, the situation does not change in Romania and the problems are going to persist. The death of many animals are useless because of no change. The murdering of stray animals does not couse the reduction of dog population. Your plans are contrary to WHO (World Health Organisation) recommendation. WHO announce that TRN method (trap-neuter-release, method of square castration) is the only successful method in the long term for the control of dog population. Your plans are inhumane, they ignore The Europaen convention for rights of animals and are inconsistent with basic moral principles.
We would like to remind you that:
on the 6th of August 2004, your country ratified the Europaen convention of Council of protection of animals in interest stud. You are undertaken to accept the measure in this area.
Romania has been the member of European Union since the 1st of January 2007 and the signatory of Convection of European Council about the protection of animals in the interest stud since 2004. Your country has to respect the contracts (about good living conditions of animals and control of population of stray dogs) which was signed and respect the obligations resulting from cotracts. We ask you for stopping of killing in many of Romanian villages and cities. We want you to implement the square castration programmes in Bucharest and in others Romanian villages. About 5 000 000 of puppies are born in
Romanian countryside every year. Some of them are killed by their owners after the birth and others are let out to streets and forests. Whether the owners of dogs do not sterilize them via programmes of government, the Romanian streets will be full of stray dogs.
Please, take into account, that if killing of dogs will continue, we will show reality of Romanian dog shellters and streets to the whole world. We will share information of financial interests, which are hidden behind your government supported killing of the dogs. We will boycott Romanian products and tourism, becouse anyone of us does not want to support the country that enforce the mediaeval methods of animal elimination, instead of their protection.
P.S.: The Petition will end on the 31st of October 2013
