Put an End to Bounty HUnting

A lot of people are afraid of wolves because humans thought wolves were dangerous to humanity. The fact that wolves are wild animals, people think that when you come in contact with them, they automatically assume that the wolves will attack them. Wolves travel in packs and humans get intimidated by them. People always thought no one should come in contact with wolf packs since they are dangerous. According to Defenders of Wildlife, “There are an estimated 7,000 to 11,200 gray wolves in Alaska, 3,700 in the Great Lakes region and 1,675 in the Northern Rockies.” Now, it seems that it’s the complete opposite. According to the website Wolf Country, “For a long time, people would get money for bringing in a dead wolf. This was called bounty hunting. People also used to poison wolves, poisoning is probably the main reason there are so few wolves left today.” The reason wolves are going extinct is because people hunt them down and kill them to get their fur and sell it. A lot of people who hunt and kill them make money off what they sell. Since these people might make a lot of money off bounty hunting, they become obsessed and want to keep on hunting, which is endangering wolves. According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources “...a new federal delisting process began on May 5, 2011 and wolves were officially listed on January 27, 2012. The count in winter 2011 was about 782-824 wolves with 202-203 packs, 19-plus loners, and 31 wolves on Indian reservations in the state. A federal court decision relisted the gray wolf as endangered in December 2014.” These recent numbers of the population as of 2011. Since it was such a low number, they were listed as endangered in December 2014, and this is due to bounty hunting.
Daniel M. Ashe, the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service should put an end to bounty hunting because they have power to make this change. Since they are a powerful association that has been around for quite some time, they know what it’s like to protect wildlife. Protecting wildlife is the main reason why they established themselves. They enforce federal laws to protect wildlife and endangered species. Wolves are going extinct and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service can establish laws for endangered species, so they can also enforce a stricter law to prevent bounty hunting. If there is a stricter law enforced, then wolves will be able to survive and reproduce and increase their population. Wolves are important because without them the ecosystems can go out of control.
Bounty hunting is illegal. No person can go out into the woods and kill animals for their fur and sell it in the black market. People get away with bounty hunting because there is no trace on who the hunter is, and there is no way of finding out how the fur ends up in the black market. People should sign this because it is awful to see that wolves are about to go extinct due to hunting. What’s even cruel is that people make money off of it. The wolf population is small, people are not aware what is going on with the population. They are not aware that wolves are being killed for their furs. Also, for those people who buy products that contain some type of fur, they do not know where the fur came from. All they care about is the fur and the money they are willing to pay for it.
