Just when we think things can't get any worse for our flying-foxes along comes a decision that beggars belief. A permit has been granted by the Qld Gov for Charters Towers to disperse a maternity colony of flying-foxes using water cannons, smoke, sirens etc. Bats will die. This is a fact. There are dependent young in the trees that cannot yet fly. WHAT CAN WE DO? We can all do our bit and let the Government and the Charters Towers Council know that the world is watching their despicable actions. 1. Overseas people can help by explaining to the aforementioned officials why they will not spend their tourist dollars in Qld until we treat our bats with respect and stop trying to exterminate them in the cruellest possible ways.
