Dimming the lights on theater marquees on Broadway is an industry honor reserved for actors who have passed. But a committee has decided not to extend the honor to Joan Rivers. Sign the petition to tell Broadway to reverse its decision and dim the lights for the legendary Joan Rivers!
Joan Rivers was a Tony-nominated actress. Although she hadn't appeared on Broadway in recent years, she was a great champion to our community. Her contributions were so huge and so well known there is barely a need to state them.
On Sept. 8, a committee of the Broadway League, which represents theater owners and producers, decided against honoring Joan Rivers this way, claiming she doesn't meet the committee's "criteria."
Not dimming the lights will be a blemish on the entire Broadway community that will never go away. We implore Broadway to reverse its decision and show our beloved legend the respect she deserves!
"If you don't go to Broadway, you're a fool. On Broadway, off Broadway, above Broadway, below Broadway, go! Don't tell me there isn't something wonderful playing. If I'm home in New York at night, I'm either at a Broadway or an Off Broadway show. We're in the theater capital of the world, and if you don't get it, you're an idiot." - Joan Rivers
