DEMAND WOODLAND MALL TO REMOVE THE BARKING BOUTIQUE NOW

Barking Boutique has already lost one lease in Muskegon Michigan at a local mall. Now, they have set up shop in Woodland Mall in Kentwood Michigan.

On April 4th, 2016 David Boelke had his lease revoked from The Lakes Mall in Muskegon Michigan, AND IT'S PARTNERS CBL & ASSOCIATES PROPERTIES OF TENNESSEE. After 1,352 Signatures on change.org THE LAKES MALL Revoked any tenancy and lease provisions with Daivid Boelkes.  He claims that his dogs are USDA approved. USDA Paperwork is BARE MINIMUM and buying from a DESIGNER PET STORE you are encouraging the production of PUPPY MILLS. I want to ask you a question...and please think very hard...... WHY WOULD WOODLAND DO THIS? Knowing the controversy surrounding this store and the outrage it caused in Muskegon. On May 31, 2016 Fox 17 broke the NEWS that Barking Boutique would be going into the LAKES MALL. One day later, on April 1st, 2016, THE LAKES MALL released a press statement stating, "They will not be signing a lease with DAVID BOELKES AND THE BARKING BOUTIQUE."  So to avoid the controversy, and all the problems WOODLAND MALL and PREIT LEASING allowed this to occur. 

An an Animal Rescuer not associated with any organization, although I heavily promote www.luvnpupz.org as an awesome organization to go through, I am personally outraged that this is going on. With any RESCUE ORGANIZATION, they properly screen the applicants to make sure the animal is a proper fit for the owner. HOW CAN YOU GUARENTEE that these animals will not be abused? Being left in a playpen with NO puppy training pads or water constitutes enough for abuse. There are shelters overflowing with puppies, and the designer puppy mill prevents them from finding loving homes. The Barking Boutique promotes inbreeding, and brings sick and suffering pets into the world by purchasing a pup from them. You are contributing to the CRUEL AND INHUMANE TREATMENT OF ANOTHER PUPPY MILL DOG. David Boelke does not care if puppies are neglected or abused, as long as he makes a profit. DEIGNERS BREEDS line his pocket, your dollar make other animals suffer.

THIS NEEDS TO END. DAVID BOELKES JUST NEEDS TO GIVE UP SELLING THESE DOGS.

FACTS:

The AKC, however, is extremely disappointed that USDA/APHIS, by adopting the rule in the same form it was originally proposed, did not heed the comments of hundreds of thousands of responsible dog breeders and owners concerned with the complexity and ambiguity of this potentially onerous new rule.  Specifically, the rule will:

• Increase the “retail pet store” exemption to include those maintaining 4 or fewer breeding females.  Those with four or fewer “breeding females” will not be subject to USDA licensure and inspection.  The AKC appreciates the intent of a continued exemption for small hobby breeders.
   
• Deems any “sight-unseen” sale a covered activity, making the seller subject to USDA licensure and regulation.  The AKC remains steadfast in believing that the rule will unreasonably require regulatory compliance of many more individuals than originally intended by treating those who sell a dog “sight unseen”—perhaps due to repeat buyers or other known purchasers—in the same manner as commercial internet-based sellers.  The AKC believes that reasonable regulation of true commercial breeding enterprises or Internet sellers, where regulation is based on the actual numbers of dogs sold, is a better alternative to regulation based on the number of dogs a person owns.  If the goal is to regulate internet sales, then such sales should be defined to include only internet sales.  If the goal is to regulate all commercial breeder/retailers, a better definition would be those who produce and sell more than 50 puppies in a year. 
   
• Vague definition of “breeding female” as one having the capability of breeding.  Currently, the USDA defines “breeding female” as “capacity to breed” and bases this assessment on a visual inspection on the ground of the animals involved, determining whether they are “of breeding age” and whether there are health or other factors that would limit that. The AKC believes that this is not a practical, efficient, or clear way to establish a threshold for licensing and regulation, as it does not allow either APHIS or a breeder to assess whether a seller would be subject to licensing, regulation, and inspection without first being inspected by APHIS.  The AKC remains extremely concerned that the rule will make it difficult for individuals to self-report, as they would not be able to know—without an APHIS inspection and examination of their animals before applying for a license—whether they would be required to obtain a license.
   
• Operational standards originally designed for commercial-type facilities fail to account for circumstances appropriate for how hobby/fancy breeders who will be subject to the regulations will keep their dogs.  As a result of AKC’s long history and breadth of experience in advancing the care and conditions of dogs and conducting kennel inspections, we know that there are a wide variety of circumstances and kinds of facilities in which dogs may be suitably raised and maintained. AKC’s Care and Conditions policy is based on performance standards, rather than strict engineering requirements. This is because many breeds would fail to thrive in the required commercial kennel setting and, therefore, are better raised in residential settings. It is not reasonable to expect small breeders, who keep a handful of dogs and make a choice to raise dogs in their homes, to be able to meet exacting USDA kennel engineering standards that are designed for large commercial wholesale or research kennels. Likewise, many could be prevented from adapting their facilities because of local ordinances, zoning limitations, restrictions on their ability to obtain business licenses or necessary insurance. We believe performance-based standards are a better option for small home-based operations.  The AKC believes that the continued effort to subject small home-based breeding operations to the same exacting standards required of purely commercial facilities is unreasonable and unnecessary.
   

I have attached a TARGET LETTER you may copy and print and send to WOODLAND MALL AND PREIT LEASING. THE MORE people we have assiting and flooding them with complaints the more they will take notice.

And I am writing on behalf of all of those ANIMALS inside THE WOODLAND MALL in GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN. KENT COUNTY. If you were not aware of the controversy back in March of 2016, The Lakes Mall in Muskegon DENIED going forward with a lease with the BARKING BOUTIQUE and it's owner DAVID BOELKES. With this being said An online petition was started on March 31st, 2016 and by April 1st, 2016 well over 1,352 signatures were collected. Enough for THE LAKES MALL to cancel to forsee a firestorm and possible boycott from it's patrons. They revoked the LEASE and pulled out before it was too late.

I would pray you would understand with this letter what you are promoting by allowing this store into your mall and locations. You are promoting A PUPPY MILL to continue. Puppy Mill puppies are sold to pet store owners who increase the price of the pups for retail sale and line their pockets with the profit of these "designer dogs". While the parents of these dogs are subjected to a life of being subjected to living in a mere cage their entire lives. USDA standards only requires a cage to have 6" on each side of the cage for an animal to turn around. So if you want to say they are in a box then yes, this is true.  A MALL OF HIGH STANDARDS and who cares about customers truly made a poor choice. Every other Store is promoted on your website and has a GRAND OPENING. Whereas THE BARKING BOUTIQUE quietly opened to no fan fare. As you knew the backlash that would arise.

I am asking an an animal lover, that you would please revoke the LEASE on The BARKING BOUTIQUE. We will continue to boycott and protest the mall until they are removed.
