No Guns in Schools!
Military science courses (i.e., JROTC) are now taught in most San Diego City high schools. They are not required to include weapons training, yet many of them have high-powered pellet gun ranges on school grounds. This is despite the school district's zero-tolerance weapons policy and community efforts to teach young people NOT to use weapons.
Children who are taught to use weapons and violence to solve problems will not always enter the military. Some will make violence their civilian career and they may not remain in San Diego -- they could settle anywhere in the world and commit violent crimes. This is NOT what we want to teach our kids.
We the undersigned ask that the San Diego County Board of Education and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors strictly enforce the zero-tolerance of weapons policy and bar ALL weapons from school grounds. It is self-defeating to search kids for weapons with metal detectors at the doors and then issue them weapons inside.
