Legalize Solar Power in Georgia
Georgia solar energy pioneers are attempting to develop sustainable energy methods, but an outdated law makes it illegal for anybody but Georgia Power to sell electricity to a Georgia home or business.
Sidney Smith has been pushing the energy envelope ever since he built the first grid-linked solar-powered home in Georgia, then opened Georgia's first solar farm. Smith's company, "Lower Rates for Customers, LLC" and others like it would, in theory, allow home and business owners to pay less for clean energy. But Georgia is effectively hampering progressive change.
Georgia's Territorial Electric Service Act effectively gives Georgia Power a monopoly on the state's energy business--even though Georgia Power generates most of its electricity from climate change-inducing coal processing. Tell Georgia's General Assembly to revise the Territorial Electric Service Act so that solar and wind entrepreneurs can thrive in Georgia.
We the undersigned ask that you act quickly and decisively to remove the road blocks to alternative energy development and implementation in Georgia. The Territorial Electric Service Act effectively gives Georgia Power a monopoly on energy production in Georgia. Clearly, this acts as a disincentive for Georgia Power to clean up its plants and explore other means of producing energy other than burning coal. While we understand that Georgia needs energy for the future, it is wrong to allow one company to hold back progress in the form of newer and cleaner energy alternatives.
