Don't Let Hunters in Victoria Shoot Feral Cats

In Victoria, Australia, the Sporting Shooters Association is lobbying the state government to allow its members to shoot cats in state and national parks, as well as cats that come within 200 meters of residences.

Although the proposal suggests that feral cats are damaging native wildlife, animal rights advocates note that the cats could be trapped, rather than shot, and taken to shelters where they could be identified or placed in new homes. In addition, the proposal doesn't differentiate between strays and domestic cats, which puts pets at risk.

Act now to tell the Parliament of Victoria not to allow the shooting of feral cats and to institute a humane process for removing feral cats from public land.
We the undersigned urge you not to allow the shooting of feral cats on public land, as the Sporting Shooters Association has proposed.
Though we understand that feral cats may damage native wildlife, the cats could be trapped, rather than shot, and taken to shelters where they could be identified or placed in new homes.
In addition, the proposal does not differentiate between strays and domestic cats, which puts pets at risk.
We call on you to ban the shooting of feral cats and to institute a humane process for removing them from public land.
