Tell Governor Martinez: Move Beyond Coal In New Mexico!
A new proposal put forth by the Martinez Administration to retire only a portion of PNM's San Juan coal-fired power plant would keep the two biggest coal smokestacks running far into the future with weak controls for smog-forming pollution that aggravates asthma and respiratory illnesses, particularly for children and seniors.
With a thoughtful transition, New Mexico can gradually move completely from coal to clean energy, saving billions of gallons of precious water, protecting public health and national parks, and creating a clean energy economy.
A complete transition at the San Juan Generating Station form coal to clean energy will go a long way in making this happen.
Tell Governor Martinez that only a complete retirement of PNM's coal plant and an orderly transition from coal to clean energy like solar power is acceptable.

The New Mexico proposal to retire only a portion of PNM's San Juan Generating Station coal-fired power plant near Farmington is unacceptable because it would keep the plant polluting our state and our nearby national parks.

Please provide the leadership needed to deliver a better solution for our state than the current proposal.
