Keep the U.S. Open to Refugees
The U.S. President is responsible for renewing America's promise as a beacon of hope for refugees who are fleeing persecution and violence. One of the responsibilities of the President is to lead the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, which provides freedom and sanctuary to refugees who are hoping to build a new life in America.
Unfortunately, in recent years the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program has struggled and failed to meet its own goals for admitting refugees. Every year thousands of refugees are denied a new life in America due to inadequate funding and cumbersome, outdated processes for identifying and resettling refugees who need protection.
Call on President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton to modernize the U.S. Refugee Admission Program and ensure this country welcomes refugees in a secure and timely manner!
Dear President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton:
We urge you to renew America's promise to refugees who are waiting to find safety and freedom in our country. We call on you to take the following steps to modernize the U.S. government's system for refugee admission and resettlement:
- Streamline the current system for identifying, clearing and resettling refugees in the United States.
- Eliminate redundant systems and remove bureaucratic barriers to welcoming refugees to this country.
- Provide increased funding to ensure the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program is able to fulfill its goals for providing sanctuary to refugees who need protection.
