Politicians: Stay Out of My Doctor's Office

Lawmakers in Oklahoma are putting politics between women and their doctors -- and other states could follow suit.

Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry recently vetoed the most extreme ultrasound bill in the country that prohibits a woman from getting an abortion unless she: has an ultrasound, is shown the ultrasound image, and listens to her doctor describe the ultrasound image in detail. The state legislature almost immediately overrode his veto.

The ultrasound requirement profoundly intrudes upon a patient's privacy and seriously undermines a doctor's ability to give their patient the best medical care.

As many as 22 other states currently have laws requiring ultrasound counseling, but none of them are as extreme as Oklahoma's. Please sign this petition and tell Oklahoma's Republican Party leaders to stop trying to come between women and their doctors.
Dear Republican Party Leaders:

For more than two years, Republicans in the Oklahoma legislature have been burning through taxpayer dollars defending a host of restrictions, such as an ultrasound requirement, that profoundly disregard women's rights and health. The laws intrude upon a patient's privacy and seriously undermine doctors' ability to give patients the best medical care.

Please stop wasting taxpayer dollars to fund government intrusion into the personal medical decisions of private citizens. It sets a dangerous precedent for our country. Politicians have no business coming between doctors and patients.
