Urge The Rhode Island Legislature To Protect Pets and Pass A Spay and Neuter Law!

Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, including 3.9 million dogs and 3.4 million cats. Of these, 2.7 million animals are euthanized, 1.2 million of which are dogs and 1.4 million are cats. 31% of dogs and 41% of cats that enter shelters are euthanized. Only 10% of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered.

Despite these sobering statistics, 19 states do not have laws requiring pounds, animal shelters, or pet animal rescues to sterilize cats and dogs before adopting them out to new guardians. This lack of protection only exacerbates the pet overpopulation problem, forcing the offspring of adopted animals to face abandonment and potential euthanasia.

Urge the Rhode Island legislature to pass spay and neuter legislation that protects pets and requires adopting agencies to spay and neuter their animals. Help save lives today!

We urge you to require adoption agencies to sterilize their pets.
