Obama: Keep Your Promises to End Hunger!
Every day, over 25,000 people die from hunger-related causes. This is simply unconscionable. This week, the leaders of G8 and G20 countries will meet in Canada to discuss issues including global hunger and food security.
At last year's G8 Summit, world leaders pledged decisive action to fight the increase in world hunger that resulted from the sharp rise in food prices and the economic crisis. Now is our chance to ensure that world leaders, specifically President Obama, keep their promises.
Urge President Obama to keep his promises and work closely with Congress to ensure that the world's vulnerable communities don't get left behind.
Dear President Obama,
More than 1 billion people are suffering from hunger -- one in every six people around the world. Each day hunger and hunger related causes take the life of 300 young children. At the 2009 G8 Summit you and other world leaders pledged decisive action to fight the increase in world hunger that resulted from the sharp rise in food prices and the economic crisis. We support your efforts to dramatically increase support for small farmers, women in particular. The $1.8 billion in assistance you have requested for agriculture, food security and nutrition is an important down payment, a start to address the global crisis of hunger.

We urge you to keep the promises you made by working closely with Congress to ensure that your budget request is fully appropriated. We also ask that you encourage other members of the G8 and G20 to do their part as well. Without immediate action, millions will continue to suffer from hunger.
