It has been four months since an Ohio Super 8 hotel kicked Stephanie and Louis, a homeless couple, out of their prepaid room and into below-zero temperatures - all because they didn't have any ID.
150,000 Care2 members quickly demanded that the Wyndham Hotel Group issue new guidance to ALL of its brands and franchises requiring that, where legal, they let homeless guests stay in prepaid rooms whether or not they have ID - especially when freezing conditions are possible.
New corporate policies do take time to write, but four months is more than enough - and Wyndham has yet to anounce new policies to treat its homeless guests better.
Sign this petition to let Wyndham know you won't be staying at any of its brands during your summer vacation this year - no Super 8, no Ramada, no HoJo, no Days Inn, and no Travelodge!
After the February eviction, I had a polite email exchange with WHG's CEO, Geoff Ballotti, who promised that Wyndham "will include additional guidance for these types of situations." But two weeks later, Super 8's Senior VP Michael Mueller walked that back, promising only to "continue to explore ways in which we may share additional guidance."
I wrote to Ballotti, Mueller, and other senior Wyndham staffers on June 11 to ask if they have an update I could give you, but while I know my emails were opened, they did not reply. If they won't write new rules for Super 8 and other Wyndham brands to treat homeless guests better, tell them you'll stay elsewhere this summer!
Four months is more than enough time to revise your corporate policies. Because you have not publicly announced that, where legal, you will require all of your brands and franchises to protect the safety and security of homeless guests by letting them stay in prepaid rooms whether or not they have ID, my family and I will not stay at any Wyndham Hotel Group hotels this summer.
This includes not just Super 8 but also Ramada, HoJo, Days Inn, Travelodge, Knights Inn, Baymont, Dolce, Hawthorn Suites, Microtel, Wingate, and of course, Wyndham itself.
