Legal requirement for front label declaration that animal testing has been used for all products and ingredients

Introduce a legal requirement for manufacturers to state clearly on the front label packaging of their products that the final product or ingredients have been tested on animals.

Despite the overwhelming public support for ending animal tests, around three million animals are used in experiments each year in the UK. On this current trajectory, and without Government intervention, it is estimated that animal tests will continue in the UK for at least another 90 years. - source 'Animal Free Research UK.

While the majority of people oppose animal testing, many remain unaware of the extent of this outdated, cruel and pointless practice or the range of products that are involved.

If the front packaging were to clearly declare when animal testing has been used, people would be able to make a properly informed, conscious choice about whether or not to purchase that product.

In the current system there are options for manufacturers to state when animal testing has not been used.

It would be much more effective to enforce a clearly visible, front of pack, statement of when animal testing had been used.

This should include all products - foods, cosmetics, cleaning agents, medicines, medical devices, and any product where animal testing is used.
