Stop Issuing One-Day Hunting Licenses!

Seattle divers are outraged that fellow diver Dylan Mayer acquired a one-day hunting pass so he could kill an octopus that is meant to be admired and protected -- all for his recreational art project!

Mayer was seen hauling the massive and colorful Pacific octopus up the shores of the Puget Sound while he repeatedly punched the still-alive creature.

This particular cove is not usually a hunting ground. Divers visit the area to courteously observe marine life. So when Mayer explained that he killed the huge fish "to draw it for this art project, and eat it for meat," many found it hard to sympathize.

The Pacific octopus is often admired for its rare ability to change colors to match its surroundings. The octopus was reportedly still alive even after Mayer hunted it, punched it, and threw it into the back of his pickup truck.

Prevent cruel incidents like this from happening in the future. Stop issuing one-day hunting licenses!
Dear Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife,

Dylan Mayer recently purchased a one-day hunting license so he could kill the beautiful and coveted Pacific octopus in a peaceful cove area used for diving, not hunting.

The octopus was captured and beaten so Mayer could draw it for his art project. Mayer purchased a one-day hunting pass, so his horrific actions were unfortunately legal. But, divers and community dive shops boldly disapprove of Mayer's decision to hunt this animal, as it defies ethical hunting practices and violates what they view as a peaceful and beautiful cove.

Stop issuing one-day hunting licenses so precious marine life won't be hastily hunted on a whim!
