Tell NC Governor Perdue to Veto the Fracking Bill
On June 14th, the North Carolina state House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 820 (the fast-track fracking bill). Senate Bill 820, as passed, legalizes fracking in the state (although does not allow permitting for 2 years). The bill will soon be on its way to the Governor's desk and we need your help in making sure she puts the veto stamp on this fracking bill!
The News and Observer reports:
"The real decision now comes down to Gov. Bev Perdue, who has 10 days in which to veto the legislation. She has expressed support for fracking in the past, with the caveat that it had to be done safely. She is still reviewing the controversial bill and its implications, said spokesman Mark Johnson."
Send a message to Governor Perdue and urge her to join Senate Democrats and House Democrats and veto Senate Bill 820 today!
SUBJECT: Veto S820 the Fast-Track Fracking Bill
Dear Gov. Perdue,
I am opposed to fracking and urge Governor Perdue to veto Senate Bill 820. This legislation is not the safe and slow approach that the Governor has previously endorsed and was opposed nearly unanimously by both Senate and House Democrats.

This issue needs much more study regarding property rights, problems in other states, and the true cost to the state to regulate this controversial practice before we consider whether fracking should take place in North Carolina.
