Protect Working Caregivers: Amend Colorado and Federal Laws Now!

Working caregivers around the world, including over 48 million in the United States and 600,000 in Colorado, face immense challenges in balancing their caregiving responsibilities with work demands. As a full-time employee caring for my mother with dementia, I struggle daily to provide the care she needs while meeting my job requirements. Many working caregivers experience similar hardships, often sacrificing their well-being and financial stability to support their loved ones or dependents.

If working caregiver protections are not enhanced, millions will continue to suffer from burnout, financial strain, and workplace discrimination. This lack of support negatively impacts both caregivers and those they care for, leading to poorer health outcomes and decreased quality of life for all involved. However, by enacting stronger protections through amendments to the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA) Section 24-34-402 and the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), we can ensure working caregivers receive the accommodations and recognition they deserve. This will lead to a more compassionate, equitable society where individuals can maintain their careers while fulfilling essential caregiving roles.
