Keep the Cork – Brussels route open all year round
.
In September 2014, Aer Lingus suddenly decided to cease operating the Cork/Brussels flight route for the winter months, with no guarantee that the route would reopen during 2015.
After much public outcry, it was announced that the route would be reinstated from April 2015 yet it is not clear how long the route will continue to operate during this year.
In the case that the yearlong route will be ceased due to profitability reasons; other solutions could be investigated, rather than simply stopping the service.
- Flight schedule could be changed for the evening time, or a Sunday evening slot to suit those working in Belgium (workers, emigrants and company executives) rather than operating a Monday afternoon slot from Cork back to Brussels.
- Extra marketing campaigns and Yield management could be done to increase the popularity of the demand.
- Smaller planes could be used to maximize the profitability during the low season.
- The frequency of the flight could be adapted to a different schedule - for example every two weeks or every three weeks rather than just simply closing it down.
.
In order to ensure Aer Lingus and Cork Airport are doing all they can to keep this route open, we are encouraging those who use the route to sign our online petition.
