Hi,
Many people buy purebred dogs from breeders. However, not only is this not necessarily helping rescue dogs, but the breeding of certain breeds in certain ways can be detrimental to their health. For instance, pugs are famously prone to breathing problems due to the fact that they have been bred to have such pushed-in muzzles that they get breathing problems. American cocker spaniels are/were prone to epilepsy. Cocker spaniels are/were also prone to rage syndrome. German shepherds are/were prone to hip dysplasia (if I'm right). English bulldogs are probably the most unhealthy breed around at the moment, prone to health problems such as breathing problems and skin problems. Ooby, the bulldog from Bitesize Vegan, suffered due to her breeding. Apparently, breeders could solve all of the bulldogs' problems if they just allowed them them to breed outside of their own breed.
Please do whatever you can to help improve the health of purebred dogs and promote rescue.
