PET FOOD COMPANIES: Please offer food for unadoptables too!!

Kudos to Hills, Royal Canin, Purina and many other pet food companies that have partnerships whereby they provide dry food free to animal shelters. However, there are many rescue groups that are not "shelters", or who shelter animals in foster, or who shelter unadoptable animals (ferals, seniors, infirm, palliative). These animals came into care through no fault of their own, and don't deserve death.  These groups are often volunteer run.  Some are registered charities and on-profits.  Does their lack of a buiding make them any less deserving?

In every regrion in North America, there are thousands of homeless animals being cared for.  Some of these are feral colonies scattered throughout their communities.  Some are sanctuaries where those animals that are too wild, sick, old or infirm can find a peaceful, happy life in care.  Some are seniors, cancer patients, crippled, blind or deaf, whose owners could not or would not keep them due to the high cost of care.  But someone cares for them.

So. how about offering them a similar program?

Homeless pets abound in the US and Canada.  While many have a second chance through adoption and foster, many other animals remain in care.  Not all animals are in the care of animal shelters.  Many rescues are run by vast networks of volunteers who take in, nurse, and foster animals that would otherwise be killed in conventional shelter settings.

There are dog sanctuaries, where   formerly unsociable dogs are rehabilitated, cat sanctuaries where ferals find food, housing and safety from poisons and traps.  There are also rescue groups that care for animals that are at the end of life, with terminal illnesses, major medical concerns, defects such as blindness or deafness, who are waiting for that very special someone who can ease their last days with love and caring.

All of these groups need help from you.  Most are totally run by volunteers.  They have the smallest of organizational structures, and they are often not as well off as some of the larger chariities such as humane societies or SPCA's.

Please offer a program to them.  Their animals will likely never find permanent homes, but they still need to be feed and cared for in the best way possible.

This is what the public wants to see; a caring concern for those in need.  Thank you for listening.
