There has been a decrease in marsh bird and purple martin roosting numbers at Nimisila Reservoir. Summit Metro Parks has created a 35 acre no-boat zone to combat this issue. The situation is more nuanced than reducing passive recreation access. This is a petition to have Metro Parks Biologist conduct surveys and science based research to investigate the changes in species composition, density, and its correlation to declining marsh bird and purple martin roosting preferences. Park staff must also look the effect the no-boating zone has had on the birds as well as recreation experiences at Nimisila Reservoir. It is important to strike a balance between conservation efforts and providing enjoyable recreational opportunities for the community.
