PETITION FOR CLEAN DRINKING WATER IN FORT BEAUFORT
To: Amathole District Municipality
We, the undersigned residents of Fort Beaufort, submit this petition to express our deep concern and distress regarding the unacceptable quality of tap water in our community.
THE PROBLEM:
For far too long, we have been forced to consume smelly, dirty, and unhealthy water from our taps. This has led to numerous health issues, including:
- Stomach cramps
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Skin irritations
THE CAUSE:
We hold Amathole District Municipality responsible for this crisis, as the water supplied to our community is contaminated and unfit for human consumption.
*OUR DEMAND:*
We demand immediate action to provide clean, safe, and healthy drinking water, as guaranteed by the South African Constitution (Section 27: Right to Health) and the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998).
SOLUTIONS WE SEEK:
1. Urgent repair and maintenance of water infrastructure.
2. Regular water quality testing and public disclosure of results.
3. Provision of alternative clean water sources until permanent solutions are implemented.
4. Compensation for medical expenses incurred due to water-related illnesses.

We remind you that access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, essential for our well-being and dignity.
WE DEMAND ACTION:
We expect a comprehensive plan to address this crisis within 14 days. Failure to respond will lead to further action, including protests, media engagement, and seeking legal recourse.
