We, the undersigned, represent Airline Ambassadors members, employees of airlines and concerned members of the public who support human-trafficking awareness training to employees of all airlines.
The U.S. signed the Palermo Protocol with 117 nations in the year 2000, agreeing, among other commitments, “to prevent commercial carriers from being used as a means of transport in the commission of trafficking offenses.” Traffickers move their victims frequently and often use the speed and convenience of commercial air travel.
We encourage all airlines to train all staff to recognize and report suspected human-trafficking offenses in accordance to the recommended protocol of the US government, or government protocols where the airline is based. This simple social innovation will mobilize hundreds of thousands of eyes and ears in the air and on the ground, provide crucial intelligence to law enforcement and ultimately save thousands of lives.
Airline Ambassadors International (AAI) has developed an industry-specific training consistent with the Blue Campaign of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. AAI’s training materials and curriculum are offered at no cost to airlines and transportation companies interested in implementation.
We petition all airlines, transportation and hospitality companies to incorporate awareness training for their employees and give them tools to recognize and report suspected human trafficking offenses.
