On September 27, the country watched as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Judge Brett Kavanaugh testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee about allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted Dr. Ford when they were both teenagers.
Both Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony and her brave delivery of it were nothing short of heartbreaking. Despite being "terrified," Dr. Ford mustered all the courage she had to provide as much detail as possible to help the committee make an educated decision about whether to push Kavanaugh forward for a full Senate floor vote. For people on both sides of the aisle, Dr. Ford proved to be a credible witness.
Then there was Kavanaugh — brute, boorish, and belligerent Kavanaugh. He was evasive during questioning, aggressive towards Democratic senators, and displayed a complete lack of the temperament requisite for a judge.
And yet, despite serious doubts about his credibility and character, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Kavanaugh. Sign the petition to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation now.The Committee's decision hinged on a yes vote by GOP Senator Jeff Flake, who called for the full Senate vote to be delayed a week pending an FBI investigation. Flake's request follows several high-profile calls for an FBI investigation, including those by the American Bar Association and Kavanaugh's alma mater, Yale Law School.
The fact is, Dr. Ford's testimony was credible enough to cast serious doubt about Kavanaugh's fitness for the country's highest court — and there are more survivors willing to testify against him, too.It's time for an FBI investigation into the very serious sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh by multiple women. But it's also
time to drop Kavanaugh's nomination altogether. Regardless of what comes out of an investigation, Kavanaugh is clearly unfit and not completely truthful while under oath.
A handful of senators have the power to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation. Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Joe Manchin III, and Heidi Heitkamp have all expressed uncertainty over Kavanaugh, and Senator Jeff Flake has signaled he will vote against Kavanaugh if there is no investigation.
