Petition by Singaporeans to urge NParks to reconsider culling of wild boars.
We would like to put forward a petition to urge National Parks Board of Singapore to reconsider their culling strategy to curb the wild boar population and activity most recently seen around the nature reserve in the central catchment area of Lower Pierce Reservoir. This petition, initiated by the residents of Upper Thomson Road, is widely supported by like-minded individuals in the country.
Until two years ago, wild boars thought to be extinct in Singapore, were spotted in this area. Elusive and shy of human contact, it is a delightful welcome when we do get the opportunity to observe them in their natural state. In concrete, urban Singapore, most of us learn of wild life from books and through various media. Once in a while, a gem of a lifetime like this comes along. It is a chance to enrich our lives and the minds of our young on the sense of home.
Conservation is not just the business of NParks but concerns all of us. As our biodiversity grows richer with time, we hope this will become our blue print on how we as a people deal with on new and surprising discoveries of animal life we will, without a doubt, find in time to come.
