This very day is a new record: there are more baby boomers in America today than ever before. Tomorrow will be another new record. The record applies right here in Genoa Township where in the near future it is projected that more than 7,000 people totaling almost 28% of the population will be age 55+. Much of this active adult population will be seeking quality downsizing and mantenance-free housing options, while still staying in the community they call home.
There are currently too few downsizing options in Genoa Township, so boomers looking to "rightsize" are forced to either remain in their current home and deal with the burden of a large home with steps and yard to maintain, or move out of the township to an area that does offer more maintenance-free living solutions.
To allow more Genoa Township residents to remain in Genoa Township, Epcon Communities is proposing a solution by building 94 free-standing courtyard homes with a newly designed clubhouse and pool at properties located at Worthington Rd and Big Walnut Rd. While providing a lifestyle solution to growing number of boomers, millions of dollars in new homes will add a new stream of income to the public schools with little added burden helping younger families in the township provide for high quality schools.

I believe there is a critical need for 55+ housing in our community and I support the rezoning for the proposed Epcon Community and Worthington Rd and Big Walnut Rd because it offers a high quality solution to this growing need in Genoa Township.
