Trump Wants to Abolish the Department of Education. Congress Must Stop Him!

Donald Trump's latest scheme is to fully abolish the Department of Education. This is not only reckless and harmful - it's also illegal. The Department of Education (DOE) was created by Congress, and only Congress has the power to eliminate it. Education is the foundation of our democracy, and we must defend it at all costs.

We must resist this! Sign the petition to demand that Congress block Trump's illegal and destructive attempt to abolish the Department of Education. Our children's future depends on it.

Unwilling to let the law stand in his way, Trump is preparing an executive order anyway to gut the department from within. This will undermine its essential functions and leave students, teachers, and families to bear the consequences.

The DOE exists to ensure that every student in America has access to quality education, regardless of their background or zip code. It provides essential education funding for schools, protects students with disabilities, and ensures our schools are a source of egalitarian learning in order to provide all children in the U.S. with opportunities for their futures. It also oversees federal student loans, which millions of Americans rely on to afford higher education.

Without the DOE, these essential services would be thrown into chaos, leaving our most vulnerable students without the support they need.

Trump and his allies are already working to dismantle the department by forcing employees out and installing operatives from Elon Musk's so-called 'Department of Government Efficiency' (DOGE) to slash funding and disrupt operations. Shockingly, some of these individuals have even gained access to sensitive student financial aid data.

This blatant overreach is not just an attack on public education - it's an attack on the rule of law. If Trump succeeds, the future of our nation's children will suffer. Congress must hold the line and refuse to allow Trump to destroy the Department of Education. His executive order cannot lawfully dismantle the agency, but it can weaken it to the point of dysfunction.

Lawmakers must protect the integrity of the DOE and ensure that it continues to serve the millions of students, parents, and educators who rely on it every day. Congress must pass laws to defend the Department of Education from attack, and refuse to be complicit in eliminating or weakening it!
