Stop illegal hunting of Common Quial and Turtle Dove in Serbia

During August and September, when hunting of these species occur in Serbia (organized mainly for

foreign hunters), shooting of other protected species is very frequent. Globally threatened

Corncrake Crex crex is the most vulnerable, since it uses the same habitats for migration as Common

Quail does, and thus this species suffer severe losses. Moreover, During Common Quail hunting, the

main abuse in Serbia is the widespread usage of the audio tapes for attracting the birds, which is

prohibited by national Hunting Law. Still, this practice is very common – most of Italian hunters,

for example, do not hunt at all without tape-recorders. Guest hunters visit Serbia to shoot Common

Quail and Turtle Dove, therefore, are responsible for killing of large number of protected species, as

it was detected in the last years
