Someone keeps cutting down trees in Gresham, Oregon for no reason. Nicknamed the "serial tree killer," this unknown person has
felled a heartbreaking number of trees - around 750 so far, and that number keeps growing.Many of the trees were older beings, having grown as wide as 20 inches around the base, and 80 feet tall.
They did not deserve this cruel fate -- and neither did the wildlife that called these trees home.Sign the petition to demand the state of Oregon find this mass tree killer immediately!Even more sadly, it appears this person is killing innocent trees just for the fun of it. Rather than carting off the trees' dead remains to turn into fuel, housing, or furniture, the unnamed assailant has been leaving the felled husks right where they are.
Authorities have tried setting up cameras around the area the attacker seems to target, but so far to no avail. It appears this individual has been striking at night, when it is easiest to hide in the shadows. And to keep their damaging work quiet, they have actually been slowly, painstakingly hacking down trees with a handsaw - instead of an electric chain saw.
Trees are important habitats for many wild creatures. On top of that,
this is coming at a time of worsening climate change, when trees are becoming an increasingly important line of defense to preserve our fragile ecosystems. Trees are excellent at removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and replacing it with pure oxygen. They also store carbon under the soil and in their foliage-bodies.
We can't afford to lose any more trees!The city is doing the best it can to stop this rogue tree-killer, but it needs additional resources from the state government to help protect these beloved trees. There's not a moment to lose!
Oregon officials must work together with local authorities to identify this serial tree killer and bring an end to this destruction now!
