Justice for Moses!

On November 3, 2014, police officer Steve Gilkerson of the village of Woodville, Ohio, shot and seriously wounded Moses, a chocolate Labrador retriever, plainly without just cause. Mayor Richard Harman and Chief of Police Roy Whitehead have refused to acknowledge citizen criticism in favor of defending abusive power. Officer Gilkerson pulled over a car near the front of Lockport Transportation, where the owners of Moses bring their dog to work with them. Moses was walking near the front of the business as he routinely does, being well known to nearly everyone. The officer yelled, "Stop", at Moses and fired. The veterinarians say that Moses is in high risk of losing his leg and is undergoing thousands of dollars of treatment, largely being paid by the public through an online fund that was set up. There is no evidence to back the officer's claim that Moses was being vicious. Witnesses say that he was wagging his tail. According to Megan McGinnis, a student of veterinary technology, "That dog is really sweet and has always been really sweet." Let's make this petition a success, to let Mayor Harman, and mayors across the nation, know the priority of taking responsibility for the irresponsibility of trigger-happy officers on the police force. The police is there to serve the public, not offend it, so shooting never should be used against animals or people unless as a last resort.
