Thank Costa Rica for Banning Hunting, and Shark Finning
Costa Rica is the first country in the American continent to ban recreational hunting after the country's legislature approved the popular measure by a wide margin. It is one of the countries with the highest density of biodiversity in the world; which includes jaguars, armadillos, deer, sloths and several species of monkeys, as well as a variety of birds, amphibians and reptiles.
Additionally, President Laura Chinchilla signed an executive order banning shark finning in the Central American nation's coastal waters, closing loopholes in an existing law passed in 2001. President Chinchilla also announced an investment of up to $15 million in a new radar system that will allow authorities to better identify boats breaking the ban.
Thank Costa Rica President Laura Chinchilla for being a leader to protect the biodiversity of Costa Rica!
