Currently, there are more captive tigers in the United States than are left in the wild. Clearly, the Lacey Act has been violated- a law that should have prevented endangered species from being illegally taken, transported or sold. Tigers are not native to the United States.
Big cats are breed and sold without regulation or registration, and noone seems to be able to account for the "surplus" or monitor how many slip into the illegal black market.
Bill H.R. 4122 would prohibit private possession of big cats except at highly qualified facilities such as accredited sanctuaries, would require any persons who currently possess big cats to register those animals with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and would outlaw the breeding of any big cat except at accredited zoos and certain research and educational institutions.
Urge Congress to pass H.R. 4122, the Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act, introduced by Reps. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., and Loretta Sanchez, D-Calif., to prohibit the private ownership and breeding of tigers and other dangerous big cats.
