The US Fish and Wildlife Service recently
announced that it has
added emperor penguins to the endangered species list, given how dire the situation is for the species. In fact, the specific colony that was featured in March of the Penguins has declined by nearly 50% since the 1970s. Other colonies have suffered even worse fates
. In 2016, 10,000 chicks died in Halley Bay because the sea ice broke up too early in the season. The chicks tragically drowned, as they were not old enough to swim. The colony still hasn't recovered.
Climate change isn't just an existential threat for humans -- it also puts entire species, like the emperor penguin, at risk.
