Although conventional cages were banned by the EU in 2012, most hens that produce the eggs that we eat are still kept in "enriched cages" that are slightly larger than conventional ones, but equally inhuman. Fortunately, some countries are taking action: Germany has already banned the use of all types of cages to raise hens. And in France, while cages are still allowed, several of the major supermarkets have taken a giant step: they have committed to stop selling eggs from caged hens. By 2025, you will only find free-cage eggs in Carrefour, Lidl and Aldi. But only if you're in France, of course.
This great step taken by Carrefour, Aldi and Lidl, and in line with the defense of a healthy, ethical and sustainable development that is occurring worldwide. But it should not be limited only to France. People in many other countries are concerned about the welfare of animals, and we also want to see only cage-free eggs in our supermarkets.
