Once again I am creating another petition against dog abuse. It is cruel and discusting and it needs to stop. I know that we kill cows and other animals for food too, but at least we don't strangle, electrocute, and burn their skin off. Please read the information below from the websites http://sirius.2kat.net/Korea.html and http://www.idausa.org/campaigns/korea/korean.html and help me provent this torture and save another dog's life.
In Defense of Animals (IDA) has learned that two million South Korean dogs are electrocuted, strangled, or bludgeoned to death each year. Then they're boiled, skinned, browned by a torch, chopped up and eaten.
All of this cruelty and suffering is enough to make you sick.
Where do the dogs come from?
Thirty percent are stolen from families that love them. Most are homeless dogs, captured by butchers and sold in open markets.
The tragic reality is that authorities are giving the dog meat trade their silent blessing by turning a blind eye to this outrageous bloodbath even though South Korean law forbids the sale and consumption of dog meat. The country's Animal Protection Law, which was passed in 1991 considers dogs to be "domestic pets."
Let me assure you the eating of dog meat isn't based on any deeply rooted South Korean tradition. South Koreans have only eaten dogs when poverty has been widespread, as was the case during World War II. Even in those hard times, dogs were treated as companion animals.
Now, however -- with the unspoken blessing of the government, greedy, unscrupulous dog traders in South Korea propagate the myth that canine meat increases male sexual prowess and general health. This illegal industry has organized itself well. It bribes government officials and police, hires thugs to intimidate animal welfare campaigners, and persuades newspapers to extol the "virtues" of dog meat.
Although the vast majority of South Koreans don't eat dog meat, official figures indicate there are at least 6,484 stores nationwide dealing in this horrific trade.
"It's inconceivable to me that a being we consider 'man's best friend' could be so brutally killed, skinned, and butchered." --Elliot M. Katz, DVM
"I asked about the eating of dogs and was told over an over that it didn't happen anymore. You can imagine my shock and horror upon getting lost in one of the huge markets in downtown Taegu. I looked down and saw the head of a dog with its legs stuffed in its mouth. I saw limbs that were skinned. Everywhere I turned there were dogs in cages. The smell was overwhelming. That market, that sweltering hot August day, was what I envisioned hell to be like." %u2013An American teacher in South Korea
The fate of the innocent...
In spite of a 1991 law which prohibits consumption of dogs and cats, a flourishing industry exists within the markets of South Korea. Illegal and unsanitary dog farms are hidden away in the countryside where breeders raise their stock for butchers.

Dog and cat abuse in South Korea

"It seems that cruelty toward animals is endemic throughout Asia, although the South Koreans are truly outstanding in this field of endeavor. The exact figures vary according to the source, however it is certain that at least 2 million dogs are tortured to death each year.
No-one is prepared to hazard an estimate of the number of cats that are boiled alive to produce "Goyangi soju" (literally, "cat juice"), that they superstitiously believe to be a cure for arthritic problems. The "medicine" is considered to be more effective if the cat is slowly boiled to death in a pressure cooker.
Dogs die a slow death for a different reason. In the early 1980's, when new-found prosperity saw an increase in demand for beef and pork, the dog butchers propagated the myth that dog meat was an aphrodisiac. The final touch to this lie was the embellishment that the more the animal suffered in its death, the more tender and "potent" its flesh would be.
The dog butchers are very imaginative in the administering of this slow death. Slow strangulation or hanging is one of their favourite methods, since there are no costs involved and they can regulate the suffering and length of time it takes the dog to die. Often, the strangulation ends before the dog is dead, and it dies from shock as its fur is burnt off with a blow-torch.
Another favourite method is to suspend the dog by its hind legs and beat it to death with sticks or bats. This method has the advantage of not having to rely upon adrenaline to tenderise the meat and can take up to an hour.
