Fire the rangers who killed Mohawk the lion!

Mohawk the lion was tormented for hours before being shot and killed by Kenya Wildlife Service rangers. The trigger-happy Kenya Wildlife Services officers responsible for his death must face justice for murdering Mohawk!

Mohawk was spotted 20 miles away from his home in a national park early Wednesday morning. This 13-year-old male lion was a beloved national treasure who had simply wandered out of the park and instead of being tranquilized and transported safely back home, Mohawk was stoned by a crowd of locals and local law enforcement for more than 2 hours and then killed.

It took Kenya Wildlife Services hours to arrive, even though Mohawk had not traveled far from the park. When the first team of rangers did get there, it was with rifles in hand, but no tranquilizers or other means of humanely subduing Mohawk. The second team with tranquilizers were still on their way when Mohawk was instead shot and killed.

Mohawk was a wild animal, but he calmly endured the horrendous treatment of stoning and spearing for over two hours from the raucous crowd that had gathered. When he finally escaped his tormentors, the KWS officers shot him 9 times because they didn't have tranquilizers.

In footage of the scene, rangers shoot Mohawk a few times and he is seen limping and falling, his back legs clearly debilitated. He is lying on the ground, no danger to anyone when rangers shot him again and killed him. Demand justice for Mohawk!

Mohawk was well known, featured in travel magazines and visited by admirers from all over the world. Instead of humanely tranquilizing Mohawk and bringing him back to the park, reckless and unprepared KWS officers senselessly shot and killed him. These rangers must be fired for cruelty to animals - their whole job is to protect animals like Mohawk and they have failed miserably.

Tell Kenya Wildlife Services to fire the officers who killed Mohawk and properly train and equip all other officers to humanely provide for animal safety.
