I'm not sure if you have ever heard of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival that is held in Yulin, China, but every year it is held beginning June 21st for 5 days. Ten thousand dogs and cats will be killed for the festival alone. The gruesome part of this ordeal is this extreme cruelty does not only happen once a year, it happens every day of the year. Dog traders cram several dogs into small cages to where the animals cannot even move. Many dogs suffer broken bones or die before they even make it to their destination.
The slaughterhouse is a 1500 mile journey. Dogs and cats are denied food and water for several days. Many animals are stolen from pet owners as noted by the collars that are still around their necks. Some are even chipped. Most are strays off the street. Animals are rounded up, hog tied, muzzles taped tightly along with their paws, and they are beaten, hanged, boiled, and skinned alive. Chinese believe the more they torture the animals, the better the meat will taste. Yulin was started in 2010. It is a misconception that it is a Chinese tradition. It isn't. Yulin was started by dog meat traders as a way for them to make money. Only 20% of China eats dog and cat meat. The rest of the population are against it.
Many actors and actresses are stepping forward to help all the animal activists to help stop Yulin as well as the dog meat trade. There is at last count, 11 million signatures that several actors, actresses, and activists tried to hand to the Chinese government at their door; however, their doors remained closed. Just recently, an article came out in The New York Times and The Washington Post newspapers. However, the articles did not even scratch the surface of the true horror and torture these animals experience.
The main man behind this movement is Marc Ching, Founder of Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation. He has risked his life several times, and almost been killed in the process, trying to save these animals. The images that Marc Ching has had to endure has ruined his life and left him scarred forever. I will include a link to his website for you to review and get ahold of him.
