Britney Spears Has No Rights Over Her Life or Money - Free Britney Now!

{UPDATE: On September, 29, 2021, a judge finally removed Jamie Spears, Britney Spears' dad, as her conservator. This is a great step in the effort to #FreeBritney, but the fight isn't over! Until Britney is out from under her conservatorship completely, she isn't free.}

It seems like a horror movie, and it just can't be real. You wake up. You roll over to check your phone and text your friends, but you're blocked — you're not allowed to look at social media or communicate with anyone without rigorous consultation and approval from The People Who Oversee You. You want to leave your home and drive your car, but you're not allowed to go anywhere. You try to protest your conditions, but you've been barred from hiring an attorney. Upwards of 99% of your earnings are immediately taken away from you, and you're not even allowed to see where they're going.

You're not allowed to vote or get married. And you're blocked from seeing your children, the babies you gave birth to.

This is the real-life horror movie that worldwide celebrity Britney Spears has been locked into. For the past 12 years, her father has been controlling her every movement, every step, locking her into a life that gives him unchecked access to her immense wealth.

You might be wondering how in the world this is legal. Well, it's called a "conservatorship," and it's designed for people who are extremely ill or old and cannot make safe decisions about their lives — it's often used for Alzheimer's patients, for example. But transferring all of that person's autonomy and decision-making ability over to someone else is a last resort — one that should never be taken lightly.

Twelve and a half years ago, in 2007, Britney Spears was going through a very public, and widely reported on, mental health challenge. It accompanied the kind of personal life crisis that anyone should sympathize with. In the midst of intense media pressure and paparazzi stalking, she was in the middle of a divorce with her then-husband and father of her two children. Already diagnosed with bipolar disorder, this time hit her particularly hard. We've all seen the tabloid stories of her wild haircuts and public breakdowns.

Her father claimed that Britney was afflicted with "early onset dementia" — at the age of 26. Pleading with the courts for a conservatorship with a melodramatic flair that should have won him a Tony award, he was granted a brief, 1-year period of control over her life. But six months in, that 1-year was transferred over into a permanent, endless, life-long conservatorship, kicking Britney out of the driver's seat of her own life, forever. And the cause is obvious: Britney makes $138 million per year and now her dad is in control of it all!

Britney could continue to have the legal rights — or non-rights — of a literal child for the rest of her life unless we step in to stop it. Luckily, the #FreeBritney movement has been gaining steam online and in the press, and a new court case is coming up that could potentially free her from her father's nefarious puppet strings. Now her father is in charge of her finances and another person, Jodi Montgomery controls her personal life and choices.

No one should be treated like this. Struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar, or any other type of emotional pain and distress shouldn't automatically disqualify you from being in charge of your own life, nor should it disqualify you from being treated like an adult human being. If you've ever had a mental health crisis before, consider that this could be you. But a life without autonomy shouldn't be your future, nor should it be Britney's.

Fans have even started to speculate that she is being drugged against her will and is trying to plea for help in coded ways through her social media. We can't know much for sure, but what we do know is that she has zero choice in her life, so anything is possible. Please sign on to demand freedom for Britney Spears by ending her conservatorship!
