The common disposable plastic grocery bag has worn out its welcome. These bags use petroleum to manufacture and end up in the landfill or waterways when they are discarded. Paper bags are no better. They require a lot of fuel to manufacture and ship, and of course a lot of trees. Installing a fee, say $.25 a bag will encourage people to bring their own bags when they shop and reduce the amount of carbon, waste and damage that our city contributes to this land.
